History / Museums
The Fair at New
Boston, always
held Labor Day Weekend at nearby George Rogers Clark
Park, is truly a gem. It is a living history
recreation of a typical Trades Fair in the years
1790 – 1810.
Careful attention to the authenticity of the crafts
and costumes of its participants makes it a truly
educational, theatrical, and entertaining experience.
United States
Air Force Museum -
the largest and oldest military aviation museum
in the world. Free to everyone. Just 30 minutes
from Springfield Ohio.
Clark
County Historical Society -
A Century-old City Hall and Marketplace has become
the home for Clark County and Springfield's heritage.
Rare and wonderful artifacts are combined
into interesting and educational exhibits that tell
the story of America's Heartland.
Free to everyone. Located in downtown Springfield.
The Arts
The
Springfield Art Museum
houses an impressive permanent collection of paintings,
prints, drawings, and sculptures featuring 19 th
and 20 th Century American and European art and works
of Ohio artists. A favorite event is the Western
Ohio Watercolor Society’s Winter Exhibit where
juried art is exhibited for sale at very affordable
prices.
The Springfield
Arts Council brings to downtown Springfield everything from “legendary
Broadway to Broadway legends, theater to opera, and
gospel greats to comedy clowns”. Performances
are held at Clark State Performing Arts Center’s
Kuss Auditorium, a state-of-the-art theater that
you will be proud to visit again and again.
Springfield Live is
another great source for goings-on around Springfield.
Summer Arts Festival – Springfield residents
enjoy a full month of diverse, high-caliber performances
5-6 nights a week from mid July to mid August. Its
popularity attracts such well-know performers as
Eddie Money and Christopher Cross. There is also
a Children’s Theater featuring young local
talent. It is held at Veteran’s Park between
downtown Springfield and Wittenberg University.
Antiques
Antiques can be found at several antique malls
around Springfield. The Heart
of Ohio Antique Center has
over 600 showcases and 400 booths. The Clark County
Fairgrounds hosts the Springfield
Antique Show and Flea Market three times a year – truly
a fun, fun event. Within a mile, there are two other
antique
malls that make Springfield truly an antiquing destination.
Family Fun
Young’s Jersey
Dairy
is truly one-of-a-kind family entertainment. Originally
just a dairy farm, the Young family started making
ice cream and the rest is history. Complete with
two restaurants, a putt-putt course, batting cages,
petting zoo, this Yellow Springs attraction is loved
by everyone. Only 15 minutes from Springfield.
Clark County Fair: Lots of rides, animals, and
food create tons of fun at the popular Clark County
Fair. FFA (Future Farmers of America) is quite popular
in North Hampton and the surrounding rural areas
of Springfield Ohio. As a result, fair participation
is high. Everyone lives at the fair during fair week
so they can be close to their animals.
Sports & Recreation
Ski at Mad River
Mountain
is a bustling ski resort in the winter, just north
of Springfield. It’s not Utah, but you’ll
have fun just the same with your friends and family.
Lower Valley Pike
Scenic Car Tour -
This 11-mile trek takes you on a meandering historic
road called Lower Valley Pike. You’ll experience
the calming countryside at a slower pace.
Following
the Mad River along scenic limestone cliffs, you’ll
go through the quaint town of Medway, which appears
much as it has since the end of World War II, pass
a wetlands that daily shows of its many varieties
of flowers and wild life and nightly features nightly
concerts by thousands of frogs.

friends and improve their skateboarding skills.
Swim at Springfield’s Family
Waterworks
a full service family aquatic experience is available
at this 660,000 gallon Olympic sized pool facility,
making it one of the largest in Ohio. The Pool is
conveniently located next to Snyder Park and near
the county's largest retail shopping area.
Dayton Dragons
Professional Baseball -
Nearby, Dayton is home to the Dayton Dragons minor
league baseball team (a farm team for the nearby
Cincinnati Reds baseball franchise). The games are
non-stop family entertainment.
Collegiate Sports. Wittenberg University and
Clark State Community College both have active collegiate
sports that you can enjoy.
Softball. Springfield has a great softball league – there
is something going on every day of the week.
Frisbee. Yellow Springs offers Frisbee leagues.
Try a game of pickup ultimate Frisbee.
Soccer. There are soccer leagues at the Sports
Plex in nearby Fairborn.
Racquetball. The Springfield Athletic Club, in
Northridge, has racquetball leagues.
Education / Learning
The Clark County Public
Library is a beautiful modern new building next to the Clark
County Historical Society in downtown Springfield – convenient
for everyone.
Wittenberg
University is a nationally recognized four-year liberal arts
college offering graduate and undergraduate degrees.
With a population of just 2200 students, it offers
the same intimacy and friendliness that you would
expect from a big little town like Springfield. Still
growing, it recently added a new science center and
new dormitories. It is home to the Weaver Observatory – one
of the oldest in the country.
Clark State
Community College is a two-year college offering Associate of Arts
and Associate of Science degrees. Located on the
south side of Springfield, conveniently near I-70,
it too is growing and recently built the fabulous
Kuss Auditorium, located in downtown Springfield
and serving as Springfield’s Performing Arts
Center.
If That Is Not Enough…
Water parks, museums, amusement parks, train rides,
zoos, outlet malls, major sporting events, and other
entertainment are within a one-hour drive of the
city. Springfield is less than an eight-hour road
