Clifton Ohio —
a town near springfield Ohio
A Town With No Stop Lights
Clifton Ohio is a sleepy little town seven miles
south of Springfield Ohio and four
miles southeast of Yellow Springs Ohio . There
are no side walks and no traffic lights because there
is basically no traffic — that is, except at
Christmas time.
Clifton comes to life
at Christmas when the historic Clifton
Mill decorates
with over 3 million lights to create a wonderland
for both children and adults.
Throughout the rest of the year, music fills the
refurbished opera house every Saturday night,
people come to visit the antique shops and hike the
nearby state parks.
Unique Hiking Opportunities at Nearby
State Parks
On
the outskirts of town is the entrance to beautiful
Clifton
Gorge State Park — a very unusual stretch
of the scenic Little Miami River.
This area of the Little Miami River narrows
down to only a yard or so, creating a very
steep gorge that is quite breathtaking. It
quickly opens up into a lovely natural forested area
with thousands of species of wildflowers protected
by John Bryant State Park.
The village's heyday was about 1850 when 300 people
called Clifton home. Today the population
is about half that, with 59 residents living in the
Clark County half and 130 residents in the Greene
County half.
Why People Choose to Live in Clifton Ohio
People choose to live in
Clifton OH because of the peaceful surroundings and
laid-back lifestyle. Residents
routinely walk down the middle of the road to visit
neighbors.
Rare are towns where the former jail is now a senior
center, the community bulletin board sits in front
of the Opera House and six outhouses still stand — one
of which is a three-seater. Everything in town
is authentic.
